After their auditions for UIL One-Act on Wednesday, December 10, theater kids await the casting results they will receive next semester.
One-Act UIL is the focus of the theater department for the second semester, and it is a cause for excitement among the students involved. It allows them to travel around Texas, compete and spend time with their friends. Junior Ella Giles spoke about her experience from the last two years she’s been involved.
“You get to be with all these people you love and just travel,” Giles said. “And that’s how you get those high school memories.”
This shared sense of community isn’t the only thing that draws theater students to the opportunity. Sophomore Lucas Ghent described his participation in One-Act for the art.
“I love it because of all the opportunities and responsibilities and creative struggle and chaos,” Ghent said. “It’s organized chaos of people working together to create one mashup of everyone’s talents into something great that people can enjoy.”
With the seniors making up much of the cast last year, things will definitely be different.
“We got a lot of freshmen coming in, and they’re all super duper talented, and I’m really excited,” Giles said. “It’s fun to see them stepping out there and being brave.”
Freshman Clark Nuttall has wanted to be a part of One-Act since middle school but never got the chance before.
“I wanted to take this opportunity to keep doing my passion and tell the audience a story,” Nuttall said. “In One-Act, I’m looking forward to mostly the relationships I’m gonna build with everyone around me and hopefully making it really far.”
Now that auditions have passed all that’s left to do is wait for results.
“I did it freshman and sophomore year, and it has been one of the funnest things of the year,” Giles said. “Even the smallest parts, get so much to do.”
