Egg breaks world record.

So many things have happened in 2019 and it’s only a couple weeks in, but perhaps the most eye-catching headline yet is that a picture of an egg now holds the world record for the most likes on Instagram.

On Jan. 4, the account holder, who remains anonymous, posted a photo of a plain egg with a caption claiming that they wanted to beat the world record for photo with the most likes on Instagram.

About nine days later, the photo broke the record with over 20 million likes, beating Kylie Jenner’s 18 million. The photo now has over 50 million likes, including one from Kendall and Kylie Jenner, among many other celebrities who seem to also think this is hilarious.

The account is now verified and has posted the egg again with a slight crack on the top, which has made users question what’s hatching. Some users on Instagram have joked that the Instagram community coming together to like a picture of an egg is the closest thing humanity has come to world peace.

The account owner is now selling merchandise for the egg, and 10% of sales go to the charity of their choosing, with a different charity being chosen each day. Although most buzz about the egg has quieted down, it will remain an eggcellent feat until the record is beaten again.
