Many students from all levels of art in the high school have prepared and submitted art that represents the west for a local art competition held at the stock show. The pieces showed parts of cattle culture and the older frontier life. The art will be judged starting Jan. 12 and will end on Feb. 3.
One of the many students entering the show said the student body would enjoy seeing the art from students all over Texas that will be on display at the show early next year. “Even people who aren’t in the show should go because there is a lot to see and fun things to do,” senior Naila Wilson said. Some students have spent months on their pieces and are expecting the show to be amazing.
The western theme presented many challenges and pushed students to be more creative. Many had to gather their own photographs to work from, even if that meant pulling off the road to snap pictures of cattle and horses along the fences. “It was hard to gather my thoughts and execute a plan,” Naila said in regards to the theme, “The project definitely had challenges, but it was fun.”
