First Leading Ladies Meeting Offers Young Women an Opportunity to Help and to Grow

Leading Ladies had its first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 5.  The meeting began with Co-Presidents Emma Tilley and Emma Rawley giving general information about the club.

 

In addition to the information previously given, the McAnally program, Lil’ Ladies was also discussed. 

 

“Last year was our first year of Lil’ Ladies, our group at McAnally,”  program sponsor Tricia Hackfeld said. “We go over to the sixth grade campus to some of their meetings… we help them with different things. We will do service projects with them. We will do parties with them.” 

 

 At least four participants of Aledo High School’s Leading Ladies are to attend each Lil’ Ladies meetings.

 

“It’s an organization that basically allows girls to get involved in their community,” program sponsor Jamie Rinehart said. “We want to build leadership. We want to empower these girls and want them to feel like they can always find an outlet that they can be leaders in their community and in their school and whatever they are involved in.”  

 

In the years before, the organization also had events in which guest speakers come and speak to the girls. 

 

“Women in powerful positions have come and spoken about sort of their rise in their career and how important that was especially for them being a women and how hard sometimes that road is,” “Rinehart said.”  

 

According to Rinehart Leading Ladies teaches its participants “to be aware of others than yourself,” and “gives you the chance to get out of your own life to help others.”  

 

Leading Ladies is in need of a secretary, vice president, social media director and a historian.  During the next meeting, on Thursday, Sept. 19. the organization will vote for new officers.

 

At the meeting a sign-up sheet will also be available.

 

Dues are $15  to be a part of leading ladies.
