Texas Rangers fans can rep Bearcat Country with a collaboration to celebrate Aledo alumn pitcher Cody Bradford, #61, through jersey sales and reduced ticket pricing for Aledo ISD night June 1.
“It’s pretty cool that he was able to accomplish what he did, and then now he’s getting recognized by Aledo,” freshman Logan Steele said. “It makes me excited for the future, just of all the things you can do, and proud of the Aledo sports system.”
Bradford not only played baseball for the Bearcats, but he was also the class of 2016 valedictorian.
“To see him succeed, not only in the classroom but also following his dream to be a baseball player, just shows that he was a great success,” Baseball Coach Chad Berry said. “Cody was a gifted athlete, but he wasn’t overly gifted. He had to work at it and not give up his dream. Just to see him work to get better and better definitely shows that hard work pays off in the end.”
Bradford reps the the town as a prominent figure for baseball fans, and freshman Graham Pokorny spoke about his legacy and the jersey deal.
“I’m excited about this partnership because I love baseball and Bradford is a role model,” Pokorny said. “It’s exciting to see an Aledo graduate achieving big things in professional sports, and it inspires me too.”
Bradford currently has a 10-6 win-loss record as a pitcher for the Rangers, with 121 strikeouts.
“Events like this give kids something to shoot for, they look at one of their own and see where he’s at and it shows them they can do the same thing, so I think it shows anything is possible,” Berry said. “Better get the tickets while they last, the Rangers are going to be good this year.”
