Before spring break, architecture students got the chance to work on a project to help the City of Willow Park.
Officials from the city reached out to the Career and Technical Education Coordinator Tim Rogers for some help with a project.
Rogers spoke with the students in the CTE course, to give them the chance at real-world experience.
“Mr. Rogers, the CTE coordinator, has been a guiding force in this project,” architecture junior Amelia Buck said. “Mr. Rogers received an email from the City of Willow Park asking if he had any students that would like to design a bathroom for them, just to get a fresh take on some previous designs that they had.”
Getting this opportunity is something these students say is invaluable.
“It’s been amazing, having to work with Sam, Faith and everyone is awesome,” junior Mathew Dominick said. “I can’t believe I get an opportunity to build a pavilion and a bathroom for Willow Park, especially being a high schooler being involved with projects this large are really important.”
By working on projects like this, these students are getting a leg up on their competition in college and careers afterward.
“I did the 3-D model and read it,” architecture senior Samuel Gent said. “Having this real world experience will help me next year in college. It’s a very exciting feeling.”
The students said they’ve appreciated this challenge and they can’t wait to see what else they can produce.
Along with this project, students have also worked on interior design they will begin to work on furnishing projects next.
