Following a record-breaking 27-7 season which resulted in the most wins and first district championship in school history, boys varsity basketball players earned different district awards for the 2024-2025 season.
All seven coaches from each team in the district came together to vote on which players deserve the titles, and they selected the following students for these awards.
- District MVP: Joaquin Pechaeco
- Newcomer of the Year: Townes VanHuysen
- 1st Team All District: Enrique Pechaeco
- 2nd Team All District: Caden Cunningham
- 2nd Team All District: Brett Barclay
- Honorable Mention All District: Carter Kinchen
- Honorable Mention All District: Dylan Pipkin
Cunningham said this was a goal of his, and the hours of practice he spent helped him get to this point.
“I was proud of myself,” Cunningham said. “Working hard and was putting in the effort when I didn’t want to helped me win the award.”
Like Cunningham, junior center Townes VanHuysen said training consistently helped him win the award and that he wants to win the District MVP next year.
“Just getting up to the school before most people are here and training consistently,” Vanhuysen said. “Next year I want the district MVP.”
As the team works to prepare for next season, junior forward Dylan Pipkins said he plans to perform even better next year and hopefully win an all district spot.
“Next year I aim to be recognized even more,” Pipkins said, “to be awarded and all district spot would mean the world to me”
While he worked hard throughout the season, junior guard Carter Kinchen said he was surprised his efforts paid off.
“To be honest I didn’t even think about receiving an award,” Kinchen said. “I’m not to sure if I deserve it, but a win is a win.”
The boys varsity basketball team’s season ended Feb. 18, against Denton High School, and the players said they plan to bring awards to the program next season.
