The varsity boys’ soccer players look to cap off the season as they are on a roll with a 10-3-2 overall record, and are 6-1-1 in district.
Senior Elliot Smith said this has been an amazing season for the team, and he said he is excited to see where their determination and skill take them.
“I am very happy with what the team has accomplished,” Smith said. “We’ve got a great group of guys who are all like brothers, we’ve been able to bounce back from our first game where we faced a loss, and have been on a five game winning streak since then. We’ve got a lot potential, and we’re hungry.”
Smith also added how this season has felt so special compared the previous ones.
“We started out playing 6A teams and proved that we could hang with them,” Smith said. “We then had some costly injuries, but people have stepped up, and after a rough loss to Brewer to start the district. We’ve gone undefeated up to this point. Our team is currently in first place in the district and four games away from being district champions.”
The mentality the team has is to win, and anything short of that is not an option.
Throughout the season, senior striker Adrian Solis, #9, said the team’s mentality is to keep pushing all the way to that state title.
“I think I can speak on behalf of our team that our hope is winning the state championship,” Solis said. “When our team is in our best condition, there is not a 5A team in Texas that is better than us. If we stay healthy and play as we have been, then we should have a deep run in the playoffs.”
Solis also adds how they still have to focus on what is ahead of them.
“Our main goal coming into the season was to dominate our district,” Solis said. “We have been accomplishing that goal so far and will continue to do so through our last few games.”
Senior Randy Randriamahefa said he hopes to add to his personal stats while also helping the team in the playoffs “win has many games as possible and reach 50 career goals and 50 career assists.”
“Expectations right now are pretty high for playoffs,” Randriamahefa said. “And I think we can do something special.”
