The varsity boys’ basketball team is still in the running for a state title after winning the district championship and finishing the district season 22-4-0.
After the hiring of the new head coach Brian Blackburn this season, the varsity boys’ basketball team hasn’t looked back and have had their best season to date.
Senior guard Joaquin Pacheco credited the work ethic of the players as the reason for their extraordinary season.
“It definitely motivates us because we’ve been getting a bunch of recognition, so we know that we’re good enough to make a run in playoffs,” Pacheco said. “Hopefully, we can do that. Going into playoffs [there] are definitely going to be teams that we’ve never played before, and teams that are just far better than anyone that we faced. We’re just going to have to remember what got us here, which is just hustling and giving it our all, so we just got to go out there and give it our best, hope for the best.”
Pacheco expressed the pride he has in his teammates and how fortunate they are to have grown into a powerhouse team.
The bi-district playoffs will be Feb. 17-18 with area playoffs set for Feb. 20-22. If the players advance, they will take on regionals Feb. 24-March 1 until state matchups the first week in March.
