Over the summer various changes were made both on campus and staffing, such as the renovations in the high school building’s library. The renovations include new furniture, carpets and features to enhance students’ comfort.
This year, the library has seen many changes, from furniture to more accessible areas where students can eat lunch in the comfort of their own private study space. These changes have made the library more of a “cafe style” for students to access before, during, and after school hours.
“The design concept was to have the front part be like a cafe so students could be able to eat in the library this year,” high school librarian Jessica Claffey said. “Then the middle part is designed to be more of a learning area for classes to come and teach their lessons.”
Other than the front cafe portion of the library being renovated, many students have noticed the new back area being “more comfortable and quiet.” This change has influenced more students to come in during their off-period and lunches.
“I like the quiet area in the back with the rolling chairs and the dividers,” junior Zoey Sullivan said. “It’s the perfect spot to come to draw and study during 8th period or whenever I am free.”
The new environment of the library has had “a huge impact on student participation,” Claffey said.
“The crafts in the maker space I participate in are painting, bracelet making, jewelry making and so much more,” senior Lalia Abu Tobeh said. “It’s the perfect place to relax and hang out with friends during lunch or flex.”
As the first semester of the school year comes to a close, Claffey said she has seen how much these changes have impacted students for the better.
“With all the renovations made to the high school campus this year, the library has been the most notable and enjoyed by students,” Claffey said. “The library is not just a boring place to study but rather, a popular place for downtime and a comfortable place to be.”
