Every athlete has the dream of playing their sport in college, and several Bearcats made their commitment last week Nov. 13.
During the fall signing in the gym, about 20 student-athletes from baseball, softball, volleyball cross country and soccer all signed their commitments to play at different colleges and universities.
Volleyball senior co-captain Kenrie Pruitt signed with Texas A&M Corpus Christie, and has said she’s wanted to play as a Bearcat ever since she first watched a match.
“When I was little, I used to watch them and be like ‘I wanna play there one day,’ and coming in here as a freshman was really intimidating, but it’s just meant a lot,” Pruitt said. “All of the people I have connected with, and the coaches, too, all of it, and the high school volleyball experience in general is just so fun.”
Having so many family and friends support the athletes for their signing was something senior Ella Meador said she feels grateful for because of the impact they have left on her.
“I feel a lot of gratitude knowing all these people are [came] out for me, and that there’s such a large community around me that’s so supportive,” Meador said. “They are who have helped me become who I am today and where I am going to go in the future.”
The Ladycats played in Garland against McKinney North bulldogs Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 4 p.m. for the state semi-finals and ended the season with memories for a lifetime.
“I really wanted to play volleyball since I was younger, so getting to this is really exciting,” senior Kinley Elms said. “The girls here are amazing, and they make it really hard to leave behind, but I’m grateful to [got] to play with everyone here.”
