With more than a dozen pathways for students to choose from in the career and technology courses offered on campus, hundreds of students have selected the health sciences pathway as a way to prepare them for the medical field and get a leg up as they move into the healthcare field.
“We offer courses such as Principles of Health Science, Medical Terminology, Clinicals, Certified Medical Assisting,” CTE Department Head Jenni Meador said. “They give you hands on experiences like blood drawing, EKG and blood typing.”
The Health Science Pathway is a specialized program that focuses on equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to enter the healthcare industry upon graduation or to continue their education in postsecondary institutions. The pathway integrates theoretical learning and hands-on experience, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenges and demands of the healthcare field.
“It sets up an environment that’s a lot like the outside world,” senior Aubrey Morin said. “You get more experience than other schools do, so whenever you go into the real world, you already know what to expect.”
Beyond classroom learning, the instructors in the field place a strong emphasis on developing practical skills where students can acquire certifications necessary in the healthcare industry.
“Sophomore year, I learned a lot of medical terminology my junior year,” senior Amy Ragan said. “I got some knowledge on CPR, and I became certified in that.”
For those who wish to continue their education, senior Brooklyn Reagan said the pathway prepares students for college programs in nursing, medicine, public health and other healthcare-related disciplines.
