After advancing from the regional meet in Lubbock, 13 students will compete at the cross country state meet at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock on Saturday, Nov. 2.
Both the girls and boys teams earned top spots and will send athletes to state.
“It was kind of a surprise because we weren’t expected to make it to state,” junior Ian Robbins said. “We were projected to get fifth at region, but we did really well and got third.”
According to the Aledo ISD athletic website, the Ladycats are repeat regional champions, while the boys finished in third place overall, earning bronze medals.
Sophomore Mayden Mitchell said this is an amazing opportunity, and “we want to try out hardest.”
“Our team got to go last year, and now we get to go again this year,” Mitchell said. “We want to try to win because we lost to Lovejoy last year. I think we are all pumped and excited to see what we can do this year.”
Mitchell also said it’s nerve-racking, but they are ready for the challenge.
