As the competition season gets underway, the robotics team hosted a competition on Oct. 266 in the Daniel Ninth Grade Center main gym against various schools in our region.
“Our competition is a little different than other sports,” robotics team sponsor Julia Reynolds said. “Each team will compete on a field with this year’s game against other schools, and they attempt to score points, so they have the highest score at the end of each match. We also have to compete against private schools and private teams as well.”
The four teams on campus are Circuit Breakers, Overload, High Voltage, and Maximum Resistance. Circuit Breakers captain, Ethan Shattuck, joined robotics his sophomore year and has been working with his team since.
“As team captain, I officiate and try to make sure all of our functions are transitioning smoothly and whatnot,” Shattuck said, “But as an engineer, I still have responsibilities on the team to build and design.”
Maximum Resistance capitan Finley Van Dyk said he has seen how the team has improved over the past few years.
“This team is only about, I’d say, four years old. So, we’re a pretty new team,” Van Dyk said. “In the grand scheme of things, I’d say we’ve drastically improved since our inception.”
The robotics teams had an exciting start to their season and are ready for the coming competitions.
“It’s a new year, It’s a new challenge,” Shattuck said. “We’ve got a pretty good trajectory ahead of us. We’ve got a lot of open real estate for us to work with, and I’m excited. I think we’re gonna go far.”
