With Election Day just a few days away, students who meet the eligibility requirement have the opportunity to voice their opinions as first-time voters.
“I am very interested in voting as it is important to understand the power of each and every vote and its role in establishing the future of our country,” senior Tyler Huntington said. “Voting is personally important to me as I believe it helps me understand my role in society and helps me to play my part in the future of this nation. Each and every vote counts, and I believe in playing a sustained role in our country.”
During flex periods from Sept. 3–5, students could register to vote at a table in the high school cafeteria lunch foyer, something campus officials facilitate during election years.
“I heard on the announcements that I could go to the area by the cafeteria to register, and they walked me through everything,” senior Grace Garret said. “It’s exciting. I never thought that me and my older sister would be voting at the same time for our first time.”
In years past, economics teacher David Kubicsek has helped with voter registration and some teachers would walk with students to the administration build to vote.
“It’s important because everyone’s vote matters, and it’s important to be a part of the process,” Kubicsek said. “You can’t expect change if you can’t try to anticipate it.”
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, and the Aledo Independent School District administration building will be open for voting from 7 a.m.–7 p.m.
