New ag building offers students expanded opportunities

As construction continues on campus for the new addition to the agricultural science building, students in agriculture classes and FFA are excited for the new opportunities this will open for students.

“The add on to the AG building will affect the FFA because it provides more opportunities for students to house their animals at school for their projects,” floral design teacher Sophia Yantis said.” It will provide more space is the biggest thing, its essentially the same but just and add on of space.”

The addition will expand the program by adding a new cattle wing to have more cattle exhibitors and will allow for more animals than the other building.

“We are adding on 5,000 square feet of covered barn space that’s going to be earmarked for our cattle,” agriculture director Chris Tondre said. “It will expand our cattle operation to where we can offer more opportunities to students.”

Safety procedures are in place for the construction zone until it is completed.

While teachers and directors are excited about the add on, students are just as excited for the opportunities the new addition will have.

“Im pretty excited because I’ll be able to get my cow and have my own space for it” sophomore and FFA member Evelyn Buck said. “It will provide its own space away from the other animals which is nice.”

Students and teachers are hoping they will be able to use the new facility by spring break, and look forward to finishing the 2024-2025 school year in the new building.

“I’m hoping that we will have at least some access to it, before spring break, hopefully,” Tondre said. “We’ll hopefully be able to finish out the year utilizing it.”
