As the varsity football team ruhes off the field for halftime on Friday nights, junior Alexis Fisher prepares to perform two halftime routines.
Once the Bearcat Regiment marches onto the field, Fisher begins her first halftime routine along with the Bearcats Dance Team to, “Confident,” by Demi Lovato.
Once she hits her final pose, Fisher dashes to the sidelines to trade her poms for her french horn. During this transition, Fisher has fewer then two minutes to cool off before performing her second 10-minute halftime show titled “On the Throttle” along with the Bearcat Regiment.
“During the week, I have band rehearsal at 6:45 a.m., and then I go to dance rehearsals around 8 a.m. until 9 a.m., then I begin my school day,” Fisher said. “I have to learn different choreography for both band and dance each week to prepare myself for halftime on Friday.”
Since Fisher is the only student on varsity dance to also perform in both halftime shows, she stands out on the team and from the stands. When watching the regiments performance, Fisher’s sparkling dance uniform is a star contrast to the band uniforms.
Those on her teams recognize Fisher’s dedication to each program.
“Every single morning, Alexis demonstrates hard work and always proves to us as a team that she really prioritizes her routines,” senior dance caption Eleanor Schafer said. “When Alexis is performing, she is always demonstrating he passion for dance and performing.”
While Fisher performs in her dance uniform at the football games, she is still equally as committed to the Bearcat Regiment. During October, the band competes every Saturday for various UIL competitions. Since the band travels every weekend, Fisher said she has to balance her choreography even more to make sure she doesn’t miss a beat during her competitions.
Senior band member Abigail Souza said Fisher is someone students look up to for her dedication and focus.
“Alexis has a very hard work ethic for everyone else in the regiment,” Souza said. “Even in the most challenging times, she leads an example by showing up on time and has the willingness to put in the extra effort.”
As the Bearcat Regiment and dance team continue to strive in their performances, Fisher puts in the extra step to perfection in each of her routines to continue to astonish the audience at each game.
