Breaking the seal of another poster role, senior Emmy Esquivel reaches for her inspiration photos and begins her sketch on the oversized student section poster. Restrictions banning artificial noise makers, speakers, megaphones, confetti, etc. has the 2025 senior student section coming up with alternative solutions.
“I have always enjoyed making posters and since cheer was no longer making them, I decided to make them instead, “Esquivel said. “At first I asked a couple organizations if they would help me out with the paper and paint, but they all said ‘no,’” she said.
Despite this, Esquivel pivoted to use the paint she had on hand and purchased supplies with her own money.
The painting process is particularly extensive and time consuming and takes “around four hours” every week according to senior Kaitlyn Crawford who Esquivel asked to help along with other students.
Crawford said the seniors are passionate about contributing to Friday Night Lights.
“Creating posters gives the other team’s student section the idea that we are a good student section, and we have pride,” Crawford said. “It’s important to help pump people up, and it makes the student section look cuter.”
Keeping an eye over the student section, assistant principal Jennifer Lawler said she’s noticed to the effort being made within the student section.
“The seniors this year have been awesome,” Lawler said. “They’ve been making posters, showing up early, being a part of like, dress up days or themes. They just bring a really strong student section. They’re fun and kind and appropriate and build a spirit for all of our students”.
