The Feminist Club, Artemis, is struggling to find members. Many students are unaware that this club even exists.
“It is the first time I’ve heard about a feminism club,” sophomore Addison Bachman said. “It sounds very exciting.”
The club has had trouble getting themselves out there. This has impacted their numbers.
Last year, the club wasn’t allowed to put their posters approved for the Daniel Ninth Grade campus.
“I felt very frustrated that we weren’t allowed to put up our posters,” sophomore Madelyn Queen said. “Sometimes when I show up for a meeting anytime there would be that thought of if we would get more than four to five members in that meeting.”
However, this year the club was approved for their posters to be posted around campus.
“The intense stigmas around the topic of feminism is why we are struggling to find members,” junior Audrey Aptez said. “This stigma is present as both open opinions and hidden biases.”
Still, they’re making efforts to garner new members through fundraising and community events. “We have been seeing if we can use the auditorium to play movies,” Aptez said. “We also want to charge five dollars per person to help fund the club.”
