Soccer Teams Take Win in Home Tournament, Look Toward Next Games

The boys’ and girls’ varsity teams pose with their championship trophies from the Moritz-Kia Tournament.

Bearcat Stadium hosted the 2021 Moritz-Kia Soccer Tournament this past weekend. 

On the boys’ side, the Aledo varsity team beat South Hills in a scrappy 3-1 game to win the tournament. Senior defender Jacob Costello was named tournament MVP. 

On the girls’ side, the Aledo varsity team bested Midlothian 1-0 to take the championship title. Junior forward Maitlynn Mitchell was named tournament MVP. 

With only a few weeks left until the start of district play, both teams have the chance to get a few more games under their belts. 

Girls’ JV and varsity teams play at home against Midlothian Heritage tonight at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The varsity team will then travel to Birdville to compete in the Birdville Tournament Jan. 21-23. 

The boys’ JV and varsity teams play at Alvarado tonight at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. Both teams will then play away against Weatherford on Friday, Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
