Both Basketball Teams Take Playoff Berths
Tuesday, Feb. 12 was senior night and a district game against Wichita Falls Rider for the Ladycats and a district game against Wichita Falls Rider for the boys team.
The Ladycats were outscored in the first quarter 9-7, and Rider took a lead of 18-17 at half. After halftime, the Ladycats outscored Rider 15-8 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Rider mounted a small comeback, outscoring the Ladycats 11-8, but it wasn’t enough. The Ladycats won 41-36.
With the win over Wichita Falls Rider, there is now a four way tie for first place in the district. The Ladycats will play Abilene Cooper at Graham High School at 8 p.m. in a mini district tournament tonight to determine who will take which seed.
The boys basketball team lost to Wichita Falls Rider in a 42-40 thriller. The boys team had the ball in the last few seconds, but missed the opportunity with a missed three-point shot.
The loss puts the boys team at 3-4 in district play, but they have already earned a playoff berth. This will be the second year in a row that the boys team makes the playoffs.
On Friday, Feb. 14, the boys team will play their second to last game of the regular season against Abilene Cooper at home; it will also be senior night.
The girls team finished the regular season on Tuesday and the Bi-District playoff game will be on Feb. 17 or the 18.
