A New Club of Kindness

With the purpose of spreading kindness, the Aledo Acts of Kindness club held its first meeting on Monday, Sept. 23.

The organization encourages its members to partake in small acts of kindness throughout their day.

“The whole premise of [Aledo Acts of Kindness] is that most of the things we do are spontaneous,” sponsor Katelyn Smith said.

Members of the Acts of Kindness club participate in completing actions that create an environment of kindness for fellow students.

“[Club members] can pick up trash that’s not theirs or hold open the door for someone,” Smith said.

The club has a shared goal of taking a bit of time to help others.

“[Members will participate in] going out of their way to do something nice and doing things to brighten someone’s day,” Smith said

Co-sponsor Katelyn Mallory was inspired to establish this new club because of the simplicity and power of kindness.

“One person can actually make a difference and to be kind and do something nice for someone is absolutely free,” Mallory said, “and I wanted to start a movement to show people that you can be nice.”

The organization also offers a lesson which members can carry on throughout their life and apply through their actions.

“I would hope that students learn that it only takes one person to make a difference and that people may forget what you said or did, but they will never forget how you made them feel,” Mallory said.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, Oct. 7.
