UIL Academics Heads to First Competition
The UIL Academic team will attend the first meet of the competitive season this Saturday. Students involved will take tests to demonstrate their skills in different fields, including Science, Social Studies, Computer Science and Journalism.
The students who score best on these tests will receive medals for their successes, and later in the season, at the district competition in March, the rankings will determine who proceeds to the next meet. However, the first competition stands alone, and will not affect the competitors at future events.
Those involved with UIL academics have been preparing since early in the fall semester; they have worked with their coaches and classmates to sharpen their skills in preparation for this competition and future ones.
Students must be at the school at 6:45 a.m. to board buses that will leave at 7 a.m, and those buses will not return until after all subject tests have been completed. The competition is held at the Northwest campus of the Tarrant County Community College and will last all day.
