Painting the Town

Art students participated in the Veteran’s Day art show by creating paintings, drawings, sculptures and other artistic representations of what Veteran’s Day means to them. Among these students was junior Kennedy Krajca, a student committed to the arts.

Krajca chose to create a painting of a toy soldier for her project. This was in part due to a previous exhibit by the school.

“I got the inspiration for my painting from the toy soldiers in our art installation for World War I,” Krajca said.

Her painting had a background of thick, cracked paint, which created a unique effect. This required the usage of special techniques and tricks.

“I mixed acrylic paint with corn starch to use with a pallet knife for the textures,” Krajca said.

Her practice of painting will likely persist beyond high school, though she will focus on other endeavors.

“I plan to pursue music in college, but I hope to keep art as a hobby,” Krajca said.

Krajca’s chooses to paint and to participate in art classes because of the originality encouraged and her personal appreciation for it.

“Art is a creative outlet that I really enjoy,” Krajca said.
