Ladycats Advance in Playoffs
The Ladycats advanced to the area round of playoffs and will face El Paso Chapin in a class 5A area playoff today at 7 p.m. after beating Lubbock Cooper on Tuesday 3-1.
“It’s playoffs, and no team wants it to be their last match, so I expect everyone’s best effort,” said head coach Gay.
During game two of the match Tuesday, Ladycats were up 2-0, but after game three, Cooper cut their lead 2-1. This gave Cooper some momentum going into game four. The Ladycats were trailing late in game 4, the score stuck at 19-15. The team, helped by four points from Evelyn Torres, went on a 7-1 run to take the lead 22-20. After the Ladycat’s run, Cooper re-grouped and tied the match 22-22.
On the next rally, Torres took a setter from Maggie Wackerhagen and went down for a kill putting the Ladycats ahead 23-22. Then on the next set, Anna Rodgers went to get another point bringing the game 24-22, Ladycats only needing one more point to win the game. On the next rally Cooper was called for a lift infraction; this gave the Ladycats the last point that they needed to secure the win.
