Auditions Held for “Mamma Mia”

Auditions for the winter musical “Mamma Mia!” were held in the auditorium after school from 4:30 to 7 beginning on Aug. 30. Students are waiting to do one final callback, and then the cast list will be released in a couple of weeks.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the Mamma Mia audition process so far. It’s nice to finally be back doing in-person auditions again, since most auditions held recently have been online due to Covid 19,” junior Emma Brandenburg said.

Covid has affected the audition process and made it much different from previous years. They are currently waiting for the final callback since the director Mrs. Skinner was recently quarantined.

“We’re all anxiously awaiting the release of the cast list but Covid has postponed that yet again,” senior Belle Burdine said.

Although the cast list has not been released yet, a couple of students have already been selected to help with music directing and choreography. Belle Burdine, choreographer, has been helping with auditions and teaching the dances.

“Choreographing gives me a creative outlet and allows me to do something I love,” Burdine said. “This has been such a cool experience so far and I am looking forward to bringing a fun and modern twist to dance in Mamma Mia in December. “

Along with Belle, Elizabeth Miller has been selected to be the music director for the musical this year.

In the meantime, students continue to wait for the final callback and release of the cast list so they can begin working on the show that is estimated to be performed on the first weekend in December.
