One, One and One; Band Sweeps UIL

On April 16 and 17 the Wind Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble travelled to Burleson High School for the concert band UIL and sight reading contest.

UIL is a contest that each band has prepared for since the start of the second semester, and it is the only competition for concert band season. To compete in UIL, a band must have three pieces of music including a march and two other pieces of a different style to play. After the band has performed their three pieces, they go to the sight reading room. Sight reading is when a band is tasked with playing a piece of music they have never seen before after eight minutes of prep from the director.

The Wind Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble all received ones, which is the best score to achieve. Since Joey Paul took over as head band director, the bands have had over 100 sweepstakes in UIL beginning with 1993 and this year will add one more to that number.

The band will now shift all of its attention over to the spring concert, which will be the last performance by the Wind and Symphonic Bands. The Wind Ensemble’s last performance will be Night at the Pops on May 18.
