Varsity Basketball Teams Lose in Playoffs

The varsity boys and girls basketball teams travelled to Vernon High School to face off against Amarillo and Amarillo Caprock on Feb. 16.

The girls team played Amarillo in the quarter final of the playoffs. From the start of the game, Aledo couldn’t keep up with Amarillo’s offense; they got outscored every quarter except for the fourth. Amarillo held a 44-14 lead at the end of the second quarter, but they did start to slow down in the third and fourth quarters. The second half of the game went better for Aledo as they held Amarillo to 16 points, but the girls team couldn’t get their offense going, and scored only 25 second half points. The girls team lost 60-39.

The boys team were in the BI-District game and lost to Amarillo Caprock. The game started with both teams scoring, but Amarillo Caprock had the better offense. Amarillo Caprock came out of half with a 35-22 and continued to score until the fourth quarter when they only scored nine points. The boys team lost 62-38.

Although both teams seasons are over, it was a good season for both teams. This was the first time since 2012 the boys basketball teams has made the playoffs, and the girls team had another winning season with few loses.
