Bearcats Go Undefeated Against All Rivals

With the season looking great for the Varsity Football team, they were hopeful to continue their great start against Everman. The team faced off against Everman, an old rival, on Sept. 28 for the first home game of the season and took the victory winning 52-6. This win would add on to their ongoing state-record of 77 straight district wins.

Head Coach Wood served as the defensive coordinator in the 2007 game when the Bearcats lost to Everman. He looked forward to the game seeing that the former Everman head coach Dale Keeling retired after the 2017 season.

“I think the guys were enthusiastic about playing Everman,” Coach Wood said. “We have a history with them – we have played them in district and in the playoffs. Both teams are familiar with each other. We have coaches who have coached at Everman, and they know us and we know them as far as what each other does.”

Both the Bearcats and Bulldogs have proved to be tough competitors in the past.

“All that is fun to talk about, but it gets down to football players making football plays. Everman is talented, they are well-coached and they are going to play hard. We have to play hard as well, and if we take care of our business I like our chances,” said Wood.

The Bearcats faced off against Midlothian Oct. 5. The Bearcats were looking to keep their season streak strong when they played them at Midlothian on Friday. After a long first half the bearcats came back and scored 27 unanswered points to break the tie winning the game 48-29.

We came back in the second half and performed,” said Wood. “Midlothian outperformed us in the first half, and you have to take your hat off to them.”
